Robert Foley Vineyards
Our flagship wine, this 100% Cabernet Sauvignon is full and rich and utterly even across the palate: side-to-side and front-to-back. Our vineyards on Howell Mountain, Mt Veeder, and Atlas Peak provided structural elements that fit perfectly with the rich middle of the Calistoga Cabernet. Ripe black fruit character combines richly with chocolate and espresso flavors. The balance of fruit, oak, alcohol, extract, and natural acidity draw these flavors and soft fine tannins across the palate and linger there seemingly endlessly - one of my favorite Claret efforts to date.
Wine Advocate
The 2008 Claret (100% Cabernet Sauvignon) has that ethereal nose of spring flowers, boysenberry, blueberry, black currant, and spice. Following that seductive aromatic display, Foley's brilliance is again exhibited in the mouth-feel of this seamless wine, which has full-bodied flavors, no hard edge, gorgeous layers of fruit, and loads of complexity already, but is still a youthful wine with its best day ahead of it. This is brilliant winemaking, as some of us have come to expect from Bob Foley, and it should age well for 15-20 years. Score: 96 - Robert Parker, December 2010.
