As with all of our wines, Ken uses a specific fermentation and barrel regimen for Wild Boar, allowing it to express its own personality.
Wine Enthusiast A study in balance from the warm Pope Valley region. Shows flamboyant blackberry and chocolate fruit, but has a masculine, firm edge from the tannins and acids, and is also well oaked. In fact, those tannins are big enough to age it for a decade or more. Score: 91. —Steve Heimoff, October 01, 2004.Wine Advocate The 2001 Cabernet Sauvignon Wild Boar Vineyard (from Pope Valley, and the name fortunately remains the same) is a big, muscular, rustic-styled, masculine Cabernet Sauvignon with huge fruit, body, and loads of tannin. Not for wine wimps, it offers the unbridled power and fury of Cabernet Sauvignon in a large-scaled format. While it needs time to settle down, it is the finest Cabernet Sauvignon currently being produced in Pope Valley, one of the backwater viticultural areas of Napa Valley. Give it 4-5 years of bottle age and drink it over the following 15-20 years. It should prove uncommonly long-lived. Score: 90. —Robert Parker, February 2005.
