Pahlmeyer 2008 Merlot Napa Valley, 2008
Pahlmeyer 2008 Merlot Napa Valley, 2008
Pahlmeyer
Plum, cocoa and essence of roasted coffee beans mingle with blackberry, bing cherry, pomegranate, fresh raspberry compote and hints of lavender. Soft and plush yet solid in structure. Erin Green, Winemaker.
Wine Advocate
One One of the few world-class Merlots in Napa Valley has always come from Pahlmeyer, and the 2008 looks to be no exception. Inky purple-colored, the wine offers up chocolatey espresso/mocha/cocoa notes as well as plenty of plum, black cherry and blacker fruits. Medium to full-bodied, with silky tannins, surprising elegance, and good richnessit is very stylish and should drink well for 10-15 years. 91 points, December 2009.

Pahlmeyer Winery
"...My primary goal in sustainability is to achieve a balance that emphasizes preventing the problems from initiating and therefore avoiding as much of the treatment as possible."
                       - Amy Warnock, Viticulturist
This quote reveals the forward thinking that is just now being adopted by modern practitioners of the ancient grapes-to-wine craft. Pahlmeyer's viticulturist, Amy Warnock, has embraced this holistic, rather than aggressive, approach and has seen the results. Growing balanced, ultra-premium winegrapes while incurring the least amount of environmental impact is the core mission of Pahlmeyer's sustainable winegrowing.

Review
Enjoyed this wine with Italian food, and it was perfect. This is a real Merlot. On the first pour, hints of mocha are what we first picked up on. After several minutes in the glass more flavors emerged, prominent among them was vanilla. The soft aroma on the nose is followed by a big, bold, full taste in your mouth. So be prepared!
