Leonetti Cellar
2007 in Washington is regarded by my winemaker peers and critics alike as a monumental vintage. It was just perfect vintage from cover to cover, with tiny, intense berries waiting for us to coax them to greatness. Our Cabernet is very dark to the rim and has a complex aroma of cinnamon toast, red and black fruits, Christmas spices, nutmeg, coffee and a hint of gun power. Every tome I got back to the glass I seem to find something new. On the palate it has very long, fine-grained, slightly chalky tannins, perfect acid balance, and a beautiful glycerin feeling that gives it tremendous length in its finish.
Wine Advocate
The 2007 Cabernet Sauvignon (76%) also contains 17% Merlot, 4% Carmenere and 5% Malbec. It was aged for 22 months in a mix of new and used French oak. The nose displays herbs, olives, Asia spices, coffee/mocha, a hint of balsamic, black currant, and blackberry. This leads to a savory, intense, incipiently complex Cabernet Sauvignon that will benefit from 5-7 years of additional cellaring to show its full potential. It will be in its prime from 2015 to 2027. Score: 94 - Jay Miller, August 2010.
Wine Enthusiast
The 76% Cabernet Sauvignon is melded with 17% Merlot, 4% Carmenere and 3% Malbec, creating a stunningly dense, polished, tight wine. It's light years away from the Leonetti's of the 1980's - compact and loaded with black fruit, pepper, fresh herbs, rock, earth, toast and smoke. It's so tight that it's almost impossible to dissect. It needs time - a lot of time. Score: 97 - P.G. - August 2010.
