Jericho Canyon Vyd 2005 Cabernet Sauvignon Napa Valley, 2005
Jericho Canyon Vyd 2005 Cabernet Sauvignon Napa Valley, 2005

Jericho Canyon Vineyard

This wine reflects the power and intensity of its hillside origins. Wild berry and currants are layered with hints of truffle, anise, dried herbs, licorice, and tapenade With its fleshy rich core and ripe tannins, this Cabernet is a beauty!
Wine Advocate
The 2005 is the real deal. Super-ripe but with impressive underlying acidity and structure, the wine has notes of charcoal, roasted herbs, tapenade, black currant, licorice, and camphor. It is deep, full-bodied, rich, with good acidity and sweet tannin. Drink it over the next 10-15 years. Score: 93 - Robert Parker, December 2007.

Wine Spectator

Tightly wound, but rich and concentrated, with a focused mix of dried currant, wild berry, herb, spice and cedar. This gets more interesting on the finish, where the flavors fan out and gain depth, ending with a nice firm, tannin finish. Best from 2009 through 2015. 405 cases made. Score: 93 - James Laube, June 30, 2008.

The Story
Originally given in a land grant to a veteran of the Civil War as payment for his services, the ranch is situated along the road to the old Silverado Mine, a spot made famous by Robert Lewis Stevenson in his book Silverado Squatters. The property had been used as a cattle ranch since the 1930s, but it showed evidence of a pre-Prohibition vineyard alongside of Jericho Creek. We replanted the old vineyard and extended it up the canyon, terracing extensively due to the steepness of the terrain. With the terraces following the contours of the land, it is reminiscent of an old world style vineyard.
