Hartford Court Land's Edge Vyds 2007 Pinot Noir Sonoma, 2007
Hartford Court Land's Edge Vyds 2007 Pinot Noir Sonoma, 2007

Hartford Family Winery

Complex aromas of ripe cherries, violets and cedar are followed by flavors of perfectly ripe, firm black cherries and mixed red and black berries. Allspice and coffee notes complement a long, multi-faceted finish in this ''True Sonoma Coast'' Pinot Noir.
International Wine Cellar
Bright red. Cherry-cola, raspberry and vanilla bean on the nose. Smoky dark berry flavors are enlivened by zesty minerals and pick up a candied floral quality with air. This packs a lot of flavor, but needs time to stretch out. Becomes deeper and chewier with air and finishes with solid grip and power thrust. Score: 91+ - Josh Raynolds, May 2009

Wine Advocate
The brilliant 2007 Pinot Noir Land’s Edge Vineyard (a Sonoma Coast mountain site) also comes from Dijon clones, but it is a deeper, richer, full-bodied effort. Its dark ruby color is accompanied by a sweet, floral, raspberry, and black cherry-scented bouquet with the wood component pushed to the background. Broad, deep, rich, and impressive endowed, it should drink well for 5-8 years. Score: 93 - Robert Parker, February 2010.

Wine Enthusiast
A blend of various vineyards from the far or ''true'' Sonoma Coast, and also Hartford Court's highest-production Pinot Noir. Always beautiful and balanced, the 2007 in particular is remarkable for its silky tannins and overall seamless quality. Really excites for the complexity of currant, cola, licorice and cedar flavors. Now through 2013 - Score: 94 - Steve Heimoff, July 2009

Jeff Mangahas, winemaker

Jeff grew up in Washington State, graduating from the University of Washington in 1993 with a B.S. in Cellular and Molecular Biology. Beginning his career as a cancer research scientist, Jeff opted to stay in his home state initially — Washington was then an up-and-coming wine region with a handful of world-class producers, affording Jeff the opportunity to taste many good wines for little money. Eventually, his career took him to New York City, where his interest in wine switched into high gear as he discovered the abundant restaurants and the wines of the world they offered.

Jeff noticed his taste in wine was also changing, and the Bordeaux in his wine collection seemed to have transitioned into wines from Burgundy. After a harvest at Artesa Vineyards and Winery, he came to Dutton-Goldfield Winery to dig into the Pinot grape further. Beginning as Oenologist in 2002, Jeff was promoted to assistant winemaker in 2003. During this time he also assumed the responsibilities as Facility and Production Manager at the Laguna Oaks Winery where Dutton-Goldfield, Bolleto Vineyards, and SoloRosa Wines are produced.

In April 2006 Jeff was named Winemaker at Hartford Family Winery in Forestville. Hartford’s philosophy of "high risk–high reward" is a perfect fit with Jeff ’s outlook and career track. His focus is Pinot Noir from cool climate, premium estate vineyards in the Green Valley Appellation, as well as Chardonnay and Zinfandel.
