Harris Estate Lakeview Vyd 2005 Cabernet Sauvignon Napa Valley, 2005
Harris Estate Lakeview Vyd 2005 Cabernet Sauvignon Napa Valley, 2005

Harris Estate Vineyards

This wine has a great dark color and the bouquet jumps out of the glass, with floral, spice and black fruit aromas. The front end is loaded with fruit and spice and dense, rich layers of blueberry, black currant, pomegranate, boysenberry and acai berry wrapped in nutmeg and allspice. The mid-palate is huge-it is where the flavors really open up and the big, velvety tannins and sweet but balanced alcohol give way to a long and lingering finish.

Wine Advocate

The vineyard with the best view, I suppose, is the 2005 Cabernet Sauvignon Lakeview Vineyard. This is the most supple, sensual, and sexiest of the Cabernet Sauvignons. It comes across like a French Pomerol, but bigger and broader. Sadly, there are only 100 cases of it. Dense, opulent, flamboyant, but at the same time elegant and pure, with intense notes of earth, espresso roast, chocolate, licorice, sweet black currants, and cherries, it should be drunk over the next 10-15 years. Score: 94 - Robert Parker, December 2007.
Wine Spectator
Well-proportioned, full-bodied, rich and sleek, offering ripe cherry, plum, and currant flavors, with hints of anise and sage. Ends with firm, integrated tannins. Best from 2010 through 2017. 250 cases made. Score: 89 - James Laube, January 2009.

The Vineyard

This is our mid-block vineyard with very rocky and chalky soils. The drainage is excellent and receives full sun all day. We have one acre of 337 clone Cabernet, A quarter acre of Petit Verdot, and one acre of clone 6 Cabernet. All vines are on 101-14 rootstock. This vineyard matures usually 2 to 3 weeks later than the hillside.
