D.R. Stephens Intensely perfumy, this wine displays an exotic blend of blackberry/cassis, cedar, cocoa, clove, and plum. The palate impression is rich and round, with surprisingly soft tannins gracing the finish. Sweet fruit juice and vanilla flavors linger at the finish. Crafted as a wine to cellar for 5-8 years, the wine nonetheless demonstrates early approachability.Wine Enthusiast Stylish and plump, a delicious Cab with polished flavors of red stone fruits and berries, and a sweet veneer of toasty oak. Well-balanced, this charmer finishes with complexity. Score: 90 - Steve Heimoff, November 15, 2004. Wine Spectator Excellent structure, depth and concentration of fruit, with earthy currant, anise, coffee and a touch of mulchiness, it holds its focus and finishes with a rich, complex aftertaste supported by chewy tannins. Best from 2004 through 2012. 970 cases made. Score: 90 - James Laube, July 31, 2003.

The Story In 1996 Don and Trish Stephens found Oz II, their 35-acre property on Howell Mountain Road in the Saint Helena area of the Napa Valley, and an opportunity became available to attain their dream. Trish designed and built their French-European home on a four-acre plateau above the vineyards and indigenous olive trees. She is currently planning the addition of a wine cave with a dining hall and wine library, which will hold the Estate’s legacy wines and provide a venue for large scale entertaining. Don and Trish planted the nine-acre Moose Valley Vineyard in 1996 and had their first release of their 1999 D.R. Stephens Estate Moose Valley Cabernet Sauvignon in 2002.
