Wine Enthusiast
The "Architects" refers to the four vineyards that constitute the blend: Laetitia, La Encantada, Firepeak and Bien Nacido. The wine purity's is proof that a great Pinot does not have to come from a single vineyard. It's bone dry and full-bodied in tannins, with complex flavors of black cherries, red currants, Dr. Pepper cola and exotic Asian spices. It was raised in one-year old oak, which gives smoky vanilla and caramel notes, in just the right proportion, to the fruit. Score: 93 - Steve Heimoff, April 2010.

Christian Roguenant, winemaker

Christian Roguenant is a career winemaker, with almost 30 years experience. A native of France, Christian studied Oenology and winemaking at the University of Dijon. He has made wine all over the world; in Burgundy, Champagne, Mendoza, Marlborough, the Northern Rhône, the Loire and Rhine Valleys, and even in South Korea where he made the official sparkling wine for the 1988 Seoul Summer Olympics.
He came to the South Central Coast in 1986 as winemaker for Maison Deutz, and in 1999 the Niven family hired Christian to make their Baileyana wines. He has formed long-term friendships and relationships with other winemakers and growers in the area, and has made the Edna Valley his long-term home. He has had winemaking experiences with each of the four vineyards that make up the Architects blend.
