Robert Foley Vyds 2009 Merlot Napa Valley
Robert Foley Vyds 2009 Merlot Napa Valley

Robert Foley Vineyards

Make no mistake; our Merlots are for Cabernet lovers. Ripe bright cherry-like aromas with a hint of raspberry. The palate displays a rich middle flooded with flavors of berries, chocolate, and espresso. A long finish is graced with gentle fine tannins – this is a Merlot for Cab lovers. All Merlot, our homegrown Howell Mountain fruit again combines with Merlot from the warmer Valley floor vineyards to provide a delightful balance of structure and a big round middle. Even if you think you don’t like Merlot, reserve judgement until you’ve tried ours.

Wine Spectator
2008 vintage notes: Appealing aromas of black cherry and toasty cinnamon lead to soft, silky plum and cedar flavors, which linger toward supple tannins. Drink now through 2015. Score: 90 - Tim Fish, November 2010.

About:
Robert Foley began his wine making career in the Napa Valley in 1977, working at a number of highly regarded Napa Valley wineries including the famous Pride Mountain Vineyards, where he spent 15 years as founding wine maker. During this period he also created the highly acclaimed Switchback Ridge, Hourglass, Paloma, School House, and Engel Family wines.
In 1998 Robert Foley Vineyards bottled its flagship Claret (a Cabernet Sauvignon/Merlot blend), and has since expanded and diversified its production to offer more of the big reds Bob is famous for – Petite Sirah, Merlot, Charbono, the limited-release Howell Mountain Cabernet, and Bob's latest creation, The Griffin (a blend of the best in the red cellar). Ever seeking new, fun, and interesting, Bob has also bottled three of his favorite whites: Pinot Blanc, Semillon, and Roussanne.
Bob’s reputation for producing very expressive wines that finish gracefully continues to develop at his new winery facility on the summit of Napa County’s Howell Mountain, where more than 1,000 barrels are housed in an extensive cave system (completed in 2008) for the production of Robert Foley wines.
