Kamen Estate The 2007 Kamen Cabernet is a powerful expression of Sonoma hillside fruit. In the glass are pronounced aromas of ripe cassis, roasted dark raspberry and cherry, with notes of violets, rose petals, wet stone, mocha and spicy oak. The mouth seamlessly integrates black fruit and a solid spine of soft, supple tannins. The full, round mid-palate showcases the balance of acid, fruit and tannins persist with a lasting finish.
Wine Advocate Kamen’s brilliant 2006 Cabernet Sauvignon is one of the more complete Cabernets I have tasted from that vintage. Beautiful blue and black fruit along with subtle background oak and floral aromas soar from the glass of this full-bodied effort. The wine possesses silky tannin (a good sign in this vintage), a layered mouth-feel, a long finish, and a pure, stylish, Margaux-like delicacy and complexity. It should drink well for 15-20 years. From a well-run, small operation in Sonoma, these impeccably well-made reds are fashioned by the well-known wine consultant, Mark Herold. Score: 93 - Robert Parker, December 2008. Wine Spectator Tightly wound, firm and tannin, this full-bodied red shows a mix of dried currant, mineral, graphite and lead pencil notes. Balanced and focused, yet taut, with a dry finish that echoes black licorice and dusty mineral. Best from 2010 through 2015. Score: 88 - James Laube, November 2009.

The Vineyard
Thirty six acres of Cabernet Sauvignon and 4 acres of Syrah are bio-dynamically farmed by Phil Coturri along the contours of hillsides where slopes often exceed 40% grade. This terrain was formed by ancient volcanic activity and the soils are geologically diverse, providing a complex range of growing conditions within a single vine row. Yields never reach more than a scarce 1.5 tons, per acre, due to the extremely rocky environment and the viticultural practice of dropping fruit for maximum flavor and concentration. Hallmarks of the weather during the growing season are cool, foggy mornings followed by very hot afternoons. The San Pablo Bay opens just below and brings in cool air during the heat of the summer. It also pulls in winter storms carrying rains that replenish the water table. The micro-climate, classified as a mid-Region III in the U. C. Davis heat summation system, is very similar to the Rutherford Bench.
