Beau Vigne 2009 Cult Cabernet Sauvignon Napa Valley
Beau Vigne 2009 Cult Cabernet Sauvignon Napa Valley

Beau Vigne

The Cult is a brawny and flashy wine.  Right at home in Beau Vigne’s stellar group of offerings, this wine speaks to the hillsides from which it was born.  You can smell and taste the power of the mountains.  It is a wine woven together by the fruit of God and the hand of the winemaker.  There is a rotund core to the fruit in this wine.  It possesses a center that while somewhat tight and complex today will nicely fill out with time in the bottle.  The bright red fruit sits in the center of this wine like a star surrounded by planets.  There is no avoiding its presence and pull.  In addition to the deep fruit there are notes of French Oak vanillin, cured meat, salty shores, and a touch of Christmas spice.  The palate plays on the tongue upon entry.  Again, powerful and focused upon the red fruit core; never allowed to escape the gravity of black cherry, soil and stones of the terroir.   I love the center and final delivery of this wine.  It carries for several seconds past a minute.  An enjoyable wine now with grilled or smoke meats, this wine will cellar well past 2025 or longer. Winemaker: Kirk Venge  |  Production: 415 cases.
Wine Advocate
"...although still outstanding -  the 400 cases of the 2008 Cult, which come from a single-vineyard parcel within the holdings of Beau Vigne. Aged 22 months in mostly French oak, the wine has a deep ruby/purple color and plenty of black cherry and black currant fruit, with hints of licorice, graphite, herbs and smoke. It is medium to full-bodied, still somewhat closed, but promising. This is one of my favorite unheralded producers in Napa Valley. The wines have off-the-charts richness, great balance, and the potential (at least in the case of the Juliet and the Reserve) to be aged for 20 or more years. There is a striking purity and intensity to these wines that merits serious attention. They all come from a small nine-acre vineyard in the Stags Leap appellation.

About Us:

Ed and Trish Snider, owners of Beau Vigne, have three sons and a daughter.  Ed was born and raised in the Napa Valley.  Ed was the head football coach for St. Helena High School located in the heart of the Napa Valley, a small town of about four thousand.  He coached and mentored in the 90’s many young men who now are very involved in the Napa Valley wine industry.  Ed and Trish think of many of their players as extended family.
Winemaker: Kirke Venge.
Ed and Trish's interest in winemaking developed in the 1990s, after they sold a medical-services company that supplied temporary nurses to hospitals. They gave serious consideration to buying a vineyard in New Zealand, but then started looking closer to home at properties on Howell Mountain, Diamond Mountain and Mount Veeder. At a friend's barbecue, they overheard mention of the Foss Valley site and decided to check it out. After careful research the decision was made to purchase this ranch and name it Stags Ridge.
